BENIN CITY – Edo State Governor Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has asserted that the September 28, 2016 Edo governorship election is between consolidating infrastructural projects and returning to the dark era.
He made the assertion when he paid an unscheduled visit to the on-going Ultra-modern New Era School building Project in Benin City Saturday.
Governor Oshiomhole explained, “I’m glad that even our opponents have to concede that Edo is working and the task of taking Edo to the next level is on and it’s sustained. Which is why we have no apology when we say to our opponent the choice in the election that is coming is between consolidating projects such as this and building more of these projects in different parts of the state or returning to the dark era where everybody was buffeted with excuses and explanation and I believe our people  are wiser now and they will not want anybody to put the gear lever on the reverse.”
New Era College, an age-long government school with dilapidated blocks of classrooms as evidence of long years of infrastructural neglect, is now adorning rebirth of modernity courtesy of Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
The ultra-modern school is now having three gigantic structures comprising a very large painted hall with more than 1000-sitting capacity, P.O.P ceiling and energy bulb lighting, a separate building for Senior Secondary School and the other building for the Junior Secondary School.
The block of classrooms for the senior secondary school has a courtyard within it and concrete chairs for sitting built inside it. All three edifices are enjoying the luxury of high gauge steel and red bricks roof.
Speaking further, Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole said, “Well I’m sure it’s not my views. It is a continuation of what we call, ‘Eye mark’. Better to see it than to hear of it. Better to get it done than to promise to do it and I’m happy come out very very well and not the students and pupils of this New Era College. I believe this is more beautiful than Imaguero as you can see and the concept is totally different. I’m happy we did promise that we are going to put a facility here that will excite not just the children but the community. I’m sure for the fore-seeable future this will be a natural event centre for anyone who wants to host event because the school environment is an integral part of the community and it will be handy for those who to do all kinds of in-door ceremonies and I’m excited, I’m impressed with the quality of work but it’s just a continuation of and what I like to call ‘APC’ standard or Oshio baba standard. We can’t give our people less than the very best because our people are the very best and they deserve the very best.
According to the Governor, “The only thing is to encourage the contractor to rush to finish the remaining portion of the work. The Senior Secondary School is almost done and then, of course, to accelerate work on the Junior Secondary School. This is meant to be a very high profile model school which should compensate for the way in which previous government completely neglected the New Era and that is the problem of history. At the time New Era was built under Governor Ogbemudia , it was meant to be new and as you can see, many years later, until I came in what was new  then became an abandoned territory but I’m happy that what we’ve done here is not to renovate. It is to build a completely new concept of a high profile public school that the average Edo child will be happy to attend and I’m happy. I think in the very near future it will be open, not only to the pupils, but also to the members of the public who might wish to use the facility for one thing or the other but I’m very satisfied.”
He spoke further, “But let me also appreciate all of you who, at very short notice, as you can see we don’t go. I don’t believe in scheduled visits where everything is arranged for His Excellency to see some perfect things. As you know, even you don’t get to know where we are going until we are on the road. I think that has enabled to effect couple of changes. That is we have to terminate the former contractor who was doing a shoddy job at a very low, slow pace and replace with this standard contractor and I’m sure anybody who comes here will be proud that there is state authority and that the task payers’ is working and working for the good of the people.”
On the commissioning of the project at the expiration of his tenure, Governor Oshiomhole responded, “Oh definitely. Aaah. Aaah. Why will I spend my time cooking the soup and then I will to wait to for the soup to be served at the dining table? It will be my greatest joy and God-willing and by the special grace of God, we will be here, not only to commission but to have an activity in this hall, activity involving students and activity involving parents and activity involving community leaders. So that they can see what is going on the state and what we mean by continuity and consolidation. So, I certainly by the special grace of God.”
