BENIN CITY – The Edo State Government has called on residents to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse in unauthorized places, particularly at night, warning that defaulters will be arrested and prosecuted.

In a statement, Edo State Commissioner for Environment, Engr. Jonathan Lawani, urged the residents to report anyone involved in indiscriminate dumping of refuse to security agencies.

He said, “It is hereby announced for the information of the general public that the State Ministry of Environment and Sustainability in conjunction with Edo State Waste Management Board and Local Government Councils are hereby appealing to residents in the State to stop dumping refuse in unauthorized places particularly at night as security agencies have been empowered to arrest and prosecute anyone caught in this act.”

“Residents are by this announcement encouraged to report anyone dumping refuse in unauthorized places particularly at night to security agencies for appropriate sanctions in accordance with Environmental Sanitation Laws of the State,” he added.
