BENIN CITY – The Edo State Government is setting up e-clinics in Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the state as part of the government’s efforts to enhance access to affordable, efficient and quality healthcare to Edo people through telemedicine.

The Executive Secretary, Edo State Primary Health Care Development Agency (EPHCDA), Dr. Mrs. Obarisiagbon Eloghosa, speaking at the inauguration of an e-clinic at the PHC in Evbueghae Community, Orhionmwon local council, said the government remains committed to ensuring that high-quality healthcare services are made available in rural and hard-to-reach communities in the state.

The Executive Secretary, who was represented by the Director of Primary Health Care in Oredo Local Government, Dr. E. lsoken, noted that the state government is rigorously pursuing the decentralization of the health system, ensuring a world-class system to guarantee the delivery of efficient and qualitative healthcare services to the people.

Eloghosa said the e-clinic will function in synergy with the newly launched telemedicine hub in the state to achieve the provision of quality health care services for the residents of Evbueghae Community.

Assuring the people of the sustainability of the health care facility, the health expert affirmed that the state would ensure the availability of adequate staff to run the facility, stressing that staff would also be monitored for efficient service delivery.

Also speaking at the event, the General Manager, Edo Community and Social Development Agency (CSDA), Engr Osazuwa Osarumen, who was represented by the Operations Manager, Edo CSDA, Barr. Alonge Imodu noted that the health centre was identified during the CSDA community-driven development process with Evbueghae Community.

Osarumen explained that the CSDA takes the responsibility of the funding by ninety-seven percent while the community was allocated three percent counterpart funding for the project.

He enjoined the elders of the community to take full ownership of the project as they are the direct beneficiaries of the health centre.
