The Edo State Primary Health Care Development Agency(EDSPHCDA) In collaboration with the State Ministry of Health and JHPIEGO Corporation has organized a five days workshop for health workers on improving Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, Adolescent, Elderly, Health, Plus Nutrition (RMNCAEH + N) Quality of Care (QoC) in the State.

Speaking at the event which was held during the week at the Edo Heritage Hotel in Benin City, the  Commissioner for Health, Prof Obehi Akoria, while giving a welcome address, reiterated Government commitment in sustaining efforts on ensuring a resilient and equitable health system that would deliver quality health care services to all Edo State residents.

Meanwhile, the Acting Executive Secretary, Edo State Primary Health Care Development Agency (EDSPHCDA) Dr. Iraoyah Gideon in his speech asserted that, “continuous capacity building is a key requirement towards improving the efficiency of Quality of Care (QoC) in the delivery of safe, effective, timely, efficient, equitable and people – centered Maternal and newborn care in health care sector”.

Also speaking at the event, Dr. Victor Fatimehin, Public Health Physician Consultant Trainer, Momentum Country & Global Leadership (MCGL) JHPIEGO said that the objective of the training was to orientate participants on the world Health Organization (WHO) Quality of Care on Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent (MNCH) Framework for improving quality of care in health facilities.

Dr. Victor Fatimehin noted that the workshop is a capacity building for State and Local Government managers to oversee start-up and continuous support of facility-level Quality of Care(QoC)activities including
Coaching, Clinical mentoring, Peer-to-peer learning.

The climax of the event was the practical session when participants were divided into four working groups to thoroughly review a draft document that indicate observations and recommendations peculiar to Edo.

The groups were thereafter assigned to develop Edo State Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, Health (RMNCH) Quality of Care Operational Plan for the years 2022- 2024.

Resource Persons that took the participants through various sections of the training includes, Dr. Iheanacho Grace Iberi, Peadiatrician Consultant Trainer on Momentum Country & Global Leadership (MCGL) Project USAID; Dr. Owanlan Chidima, Public Health Specialist Consultant Capacity Building Trainer Jhpiego; including Dr. Victor Fatimehin, Public Health Physician Consultant Trainer MCGL, Jhpiego; Mr. Nganje Efeti Agnes Jhpiego Corporation Representative and Mr. Aminu Salisu Adamu NPHCDA Representative.
