Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu has called on civil and public servants in the state to always take ownership of programs and policies put in place by government to guarantee continuity.
The Deputy Governor gave the charge while inaugurating the lnter-Ministerial Counterpart Team(IMCT) for the operationalization of the John Odigie-Oyegun Public Service Academy, JOOPSA, in Benin City.
Shaibu said the civil and public service being the engine room of government requires civil servants to be properly trained for them to contribute meaningfully to national development.
He expressed optimism that members of the team drawn from various Ministries, Departments and Agencies in the State could be the new face of a vibrant civil service in Nigeria in the 21st Century.
According to him, “your attributes and achievements as drivers of government programs and policies will add up to the Gross Domestic Product(GDP), thereby promoting growth and progress of our dear Edo State”.
He added: “to get there, you need to take responsibility of your duty and the role you play. That is to say, what is our role and contributions towards this vision of transforming the civil and public service?”
In his welcome address, Edo State Head of Service (HOS), Anthony Okungbowa Esq., said the present administration has repositioned the civil and public service to enhance efficiency, productivity and resourcefulness for effective service delivery.
Also speaking, the Managing Director of JOOPSA, lmuwahen Ogbomo Ajoonu, stated that “my vision is to position JOOPSA to a world-class intellectual research and training academy”.
The event had in attendance, top government functionaries, including Heads of MDAs, Civil Commissioners and Permanent Secretaries.
