Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has urged corps members deployed to the state to explore the various means of livelihood and key into the economic diversification programme of the Making Edo Great Again Agenda (MEGA) by aligning themselves with the various skills programmes offered by the state government through the Edo Jobs Agency.

The governor, who made the call during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2023 Batch ‘A’ Stream 1 corps members deployed to Edo State at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) permanent orientation camp, Okada, said their creativity and ingenuity will also be required at one time or the other in the course of this one year journey which they cannot afford to fail.

According to Obaseki, who was represented by Eubaldus Enahoro from the Ministry of Youths and Humanitarian Affairs, the Corps Members will come up against sundry opportunities and challenges during the course of the service year, noting that he was confident their creative and productive capacities will help them to make it a year of outstanding fulfilment .

“It is no longer news that white collar jobs are not readily available. I urge you not to be deterred but to avail yourselves the opportunities in exploring the various means of livelihood and better still key into the economic diversification programme of the MEGA,” the governor said.

“The orientation course which is the first phase of National Service is critical in preparing for the enormous task ahead. It offers you the opportunity to develop mentally, emotionally, psychologically, and will expose you to the various issues on leadership, good governance, loyalty, patriotism, national development aspirations as well as the tradition and culture of the good people of Edo State.

“You will equally be subjected to some paramilitary exercises designed to adequately prepare your body and mind for effective and productive participation in national development. I therefore urge you to make the best use of this opportunity to serve with commitment wherever you will be posted,” he added.

The State Coordinator, NYSC Edo State, Mrs. Abiodun Olubukola, disclosed that at the close of registration by midnight of 26th January, 2023, a total of 1,130 person’s comprising 545 males and 585 females have been fully registered and were ready to be sworn in as members of the NYSC.

While congratulating the corps members for their success in their final examinations at their various institutions of learning which qualifies them to be part of the remarkable event, she observed that the young men and women are fast adjusting to the camp life while exhibiting great sense of discipline, dedication and responsibility since their arrival on camp.
