Investors from Qatar are set to make a huge bid for the takeover of Manchester United, according to reports. United’s owners, the Glazer family, announced their intent to “explore strategic alternatives”, which included the option of a sale, back in November. In January, British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe confirmed his interest in buying the club.

Manchester United are set to receive an “incredible mega-money” bid from Qatari investors “in the coming days”, according to reports.

United’s owners, the Glazer family, are willing to sell the club and reports towards the end of 2022 said they are looking for at least £6 billion

According to The Daily Mail, “A group of private, high-wealth individuals based in the oil-rich state, buoyed by Qatar’s hosting of the World Cup, have set their sights on a club they view as football’s crown jewels.”

A deadline of mid-February has been set by the Glazers, who have been in charge of United since 2005.

Football regulations state one entity cannot own two clubs in the same competition which would be an issue if Qatar Sports Investments are behind the bid for United, as they currently own Paris-Saint Germain.

On paper, United and PSG could meet in the Champions League or Europa League.

In an exclusive, the Mailonline Sport said on Twitter: “Qatari investors will bid for Manchester United within DAYS and are ‘confident’ of blowing competitors out of the water – with Erik ten Hag set to be handed a HUGE transfer kitty if they take over”.

However, according to the report, the Red Devils bid would come from individual investors, who want to give Erik ten Hag the money to buy the world’s best players.

British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe is among the other potential buyers of United after he confirmed his interest in January.

On the field, United have had their strongest season for some time, with the club in the final of the League Cup against Newcastle at the end of this month.

They have a last 32 Europa League tie against Barcelona to look forward to and are in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Ten Hag’s side are also third in the Premier League, eight points behind leaders Arsenal, and face Leeds United on Wednesday.
