The ongoing Gateway Agro Cargo Airport in Ogun State, South-West Nigeria, expected to stimulate economic activity and create at least 25,000 jobs through the agricultural value chain, will on Thursday, February 23, 2023 (today) receive its first test flight.

The test flight is expected to land at the Agro Cargo Airport at 12:00pm on and will be received by the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) and the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to assess the state’s readiness for full operation.

The Ogun State government announced this via a release signed by the state’s Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya.

The state government said the Gateway Agro Cargo Airport, which sits on 500 hectares of land at Iperu in Ikenne Local Government area of the state, was built in line with world-class standard features, including runway, control tower, terminal, administrative block, fire station, among others.

The airport was conceptualised in 2009 but full construction work commenced in April 2021, with Governor Dapo Abiodun pledging that it would become functional before the end of his first term in office, according to the commissioner.

He said the airport would greatly impact the state’s economy by stimulating the growth of other sectors, such as commerce and agriculture as well as tourism opportunities.

“It would increase economic activities through the provision of employment for not less than 25,000 people through the agricultural value chain,” the commissioner said.
