WARRI: There seems to be no end in sight to the plights of bank customers in accessing cash despite Supreme Court’s judgement ordering banks to recirculate the old N500- and N1000 notes. Bank customers in Warri and Effurun metropolis are still going through harrowing experience to access their cash.

A visit to most commercial banks in the twin cities revealed that customers could not get their money. At Access Bank opposite Water Resources along Sapele Warri road, there was a huge crowd of customers waiting to be attended to.

At Sterling Bank opposite Urhobo College, in Uvwie saw customers standing and waiting endlessly to go into the bank

The story was not different at United Bank for Africa(UBA), Union Bank on Airport road and Enerhen Junction, First Bank, Airport Junction and Enerhen Junction, and UBA , Enerhen Junction, when some customers were spotted sitting on the floor.

Some who spoke to the NIGERIAN OBSERVER at the banks , said they came to the bank in the early hours of the morning to enable them get a number.

Jite Afoke at Guarantee Trust Bank (GTB) said, ” I came here as early as 5am to get a number. When I came, my number was 128. I took the number and went home to bathe before coming back. This is almost 11am and they just called number 53. This is really sad ! For you own money again?”. She asked rhetorically.

At UBA ,Water Resources Branch also in Uvwie Local Government Area, customers were seen in front on the different queues with inscriptions like , ATM, CUSTOMER SERVICES, POS, TRANSFERS ETC. hanging on the fence depending on the issues the customers were having .

A middle aged lady who gave her name as Ese, while lamenting the difficulty in getting cash said., “I have never seen this kind of suffering before. You have your own money, yet your are hungry. Not all traders accept transfer and besides, most transactions fail and your money will be hanging!”

Another bank customer, Andy, said “They said we can continue to use the old naira notes. Whether old or new we can’t get anyone of them to use. This is really disheartening!”

It was gathered that some banks have started paying customers with the old naira notes.
