It was indeed a tensed moment in Agbor, the headquarters of Ika South Local Government Area of Delta state as what could have been resolved amicably, turned into a fight between some Agbor youths and Hausa youths living in the area especially those of them who are trading at Edike Market.

According to an eye witness (name withheld), there was a minor accident in the morning which involved one Hausa youth (bike rider) and a lady in her Mercedes Benz car.

According to the eye witness, the accident was a minor one as the bike rider did not sustain any injury, unfortunately, before the said lady could alight from her car, an angry Hausa youth, a scrap dealer of condemned iron brought out a daga and punctured her Mercedes Benz car tyre and fled.

This action attracted the attention of Agbor youths in the area who immediately retaliated with a fight. It was reported that many youths sustained various degrees of injuries in the fight.

Speaking on the development, the Vice-Chairman of Edike Onion Market, Alhaji Usman Hassan, said that he was somewhere in the town when he received a distressed call that his people were fighting at Edike Market. His statement corroborated with that of the eye-witnessed account, saying that he was told that one Hausa bike rider collided with a lady in her Benz car, and another Hausa youth who was at the scene punctured the lady’s Mercedes Benz car tyre which led to a fight.

Alhaji Usman added that angry youths in the area seized the opportunity to go violent as shops and business centres were negatively affected, including phones, provisions, and POS stores.

He noted that the presence of the police and vigilante men in Agbor helped to put the situation under control.

Another eye witness who pleaded anonymity appealed that Hausa youths should be called to order by their various leaders as many of them could be under the influence of drugs.

He disclosed that what happened will be the tip of an iceberg if no serious step is taken to address it.

He advised Hausa youths living in Agbor to be law abiding and shun anything that may cause mayhem in the area.

As at the time of filing this report, efforts to reach the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Agbor, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Idris Haruna proved abortive. However, the police and other security agents were readily available to restore normalcy.
