The Nigerian Bar Association Benin branch has successfully concluded activities heralding its 2023 Annual Law Week.

The week-long event kicked-off on Monday 3 July 2023 at the Ceremonial Court Hall of the High Court of Justice, Benin City, Edo State, with a speech delivered by keynote speaker Femi Falana, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

Falana spoke on the theme of the programme which was, “General Elections in Nigeria 2023; A Review of the Nation’s Political Culture and Electoral Integrity”.

Falana observed in his speech that Nigerians had lost confidence in the country’s democratic process, stating that the fact that only 22 million of the 93 million Nigerians who registered to vote, actually came out to fulfill that civic responsibility, was cleae enough evidence of a loss of confidence in the system.

The event continued for the rest of the week with various panelists sessions before coming to an end with the Chairman’s Dinner on Friday the 7th of July with an addresses presented by Tonnie Iredia and Tobenna Erojikwe.

Notable persons at the 2023 Law Week included Femi Falana (SAN), The Honourable Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Edo state, Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi, Chairman NBA Benin Branch Nosa Francis Edo-Osagie, former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Dr. Osagie Obayuwana, Mazi Afam Osigwe (SAN), O. A. Omonuwa (SAN) as well as Prof L Atsegbua (SAN) among others.
