The Nigeria Football Federation (NNF) President, Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau has made known a possibility of NFF building hostel accommodation and other infrastructures within the Package B complex of the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja, using FIFA support funds.
BSNSports.com.ng reports that the country’s apex football body is interested in the judiciously use of the FIFA support funds in the administration of the game in the country, with the aim of reducing cost especially in the accommodation of players of the national teams, while camping in the country.
According to Gusau, “To this effect, FIFA forward support fund 3.0 will be deployed to the building of hostel accommodation and other infrastructures within the Package B complex of the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja. The project will commence next year all things being equal.“
He added, “By this time next year, we would have made some progress in the building of our hostel accommodation for players and officials of the national teams through our FIFA forward support fund 3.0.
“NFF will have the provision of the next phase of support of FIFA in the FIFA Forward 3.0. If you remember. I tried to make this known, that I am going to use that opportunity to build infrastructures like hostel accommodation.”
Gusau announced that in addition to constructing hostels for the national teams, the MKO Abiola Stadium’s football fields would also be renovated.
The NFF President explained, “As well as you see, we have only that pitch, the FIFA goal project pitch that is even a little bit downgraded.
“So, I think it is a high time for us to have a new pitch, both artificial and natural pitches for the Super Eagles and other teams. So, that is what we intend to do with our FIFA Forward support.”
Gusau concluded,, “By this time next year, we hope to see a lot of progress from the project. It will be very easy for monitoring because it’s going to happen here. So, you can come anytime and see what is going on.”
