The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has pledged to give its full support to Nigeria in developing a roadmap for the environmental sector.

This was disclosed by Ibrahim Haruna, the Head of Press and Public Relations Unit, in a statement during a courtesy visit to the Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal in his office on Wednesday, March 13.

The announcement was officially made by the New Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Miss Elsie Attafuaw in Abuja.

Lawal applauded the new UNDP representative on her commendable movements towards soliciting support in tackling climate change and environmental sustainability.

The minister further stated that Nigeria needs the UNDP support and its technical assistance in battling insecurity and banditry in the forest.

“Other areas of collaboration and partnership between the Ministry and UNDP include; pollution control, biodiversity, erosion and flood control and desert encroachment among others,” he said.

On her part, the new UNDP Resident Representative congratulated the minister for his understanding and willingness to cooperate, noting that his appointment as the Minister of Environment is well deserved.

Miss Attafuaw revealed that many countries across Africa with Nigeria inclusive are not doing enough to conserve energy, climate change, innovations, plastic pollution, conservation, and biodiversity.

She added that the UNDP will do everything to support Nigeria in developing its road map on the environment, and guaranteeing that its 18 key priority deliverables, donated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will help resolve the environmental crisis and climate change.
