…candidates can check results from today
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Monday released the results of the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results of 1,842,464 candidates.
Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, who announced the release of the results at a press conference, said 1,989,668 candidates registered for the examination including those who registered at foreign centres, adding that the Direct Entry registration is still ongoing.
Oloyede said that out of a total of 1,989,668 registered candidates, 80,810 were absent while a total of 1,904,189 sat for the UTME within the six days allotted for the examination.
He said, “The Board is today releasing the results of 1,842,464 candidates. 64,624 results are under investigation for reasons of Under Investigation on Verification (2,896), Procedural Investigation of Candidates (4,594), Centre Based Investigation (57,056) in 18 Centres: Edo 12; Akwa Ibom 3; Delta 2 and Kwara 1; Alleged Examination Misconduct (78).”
Giving the analysis of the results released so far, Oloyede said that out of the 1,842,464 released results, a paltry 0.4 per cent scored above 300 while 24 per cent scored 50 per cent (200/400) and above.
“There is a significant improvement in the enrolment of females, with over 1 million girls registering for the examination. This is the first time in three years that the number of females will be more than that of their male counterparts,” Oloyede said.
“Out of the total registration, 3,164 were of persons living with disabilities. There is a 36.2 per cent increase in the enrolment of PLWDs as compared to last year.”
He added that the Board had restricted in publishing the name of the best candidate, noting that this was to guide against Mmesomma saga in its examination in 2023.
The registrar explained that in the course of the examination, 25 sessions experienced hiccups of disrupting only 150 of the total 9,156 sessions in 95 of the 774 centres, adding that the affected sessions were promptly rescheduled.
He said that only one centre, Makama School of Technology, Old Motor Park, Along FCCE Road, Bichi, Kano State, was delisted for substandard performance.
Oloyede urged candidates to check their results starting from 7:00am on April 30 by sending UTMERESULT to 55019 or 66019.
Meanwhile, the Board, said at the moment, it conducts examination in nine foreign centres namely; Abidjan, Ivory Coast; Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; Buea, Cameroon; Cotonou, Republic of Benin; London, United Kingdom; Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; and Johannesburg, South Africa.
The JAMB Registrar said the essence of the foreign component of the examination is to market the nation’s institutions of higher learning to the outside world as well as ensuring that our universities reflect the universality of academic traditions, among others.
“The Board is currently fine-tuning arrangements for the conduct of the 2024 UTME in these foreign centres,” he said.
