In a bid to bolster economic growth and infrastructure development, the Edo State Government has called for the expedited completion and commissioning of the Monee International Market in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area.

This call was made during a crucial meeting held yesterday at the One-Stop-Shop, Block B, Secretariat in Benin City.

The Managing Director of the Edo State Investment Promotion Office (ESIPO)-Ease of Doing Business Secretariat, Kelvin Uwaibi and the Chairman of Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area, Dr. Eric Osayande spearheaded the meeting, emphasizing the importance of finishing strong in Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration.

During the meeting, government officials pledged to facilitate the timely completion of the market, promising to address concerns raised by market stakeholders, including the construction of linking roads.

Uwaibi affirmed the government’s commitment to progress and development, stating, “We want the market to be completed and commissioned as soon as possible. We are dedicated to ensuring the prosperity of traders and the overall growth of Edo State.”

Acknowledging the role of market owners in the project, the Secretary to the Edo State Ease of Doing Business Council assured that the government would provide necessary approvals and support to ensure compliance with building plans and specifications adding that similar markets will be facilitated in Edo North and Edo Central.

In response, the Chairman of Ikpoba Okha LGA expressed his commitment to the project’s success, citing his involvement since its inception. He encouraged market stakeholders to communicate their needs, promising unwavering support from the local government.

Members of the market’s Board of Trustees and representatives from the Association of Electrical Union, Association of Electronic Union, and Association of Building Materials Union lauded the government’s support and pledged to accelerate ongoing work to meet agreed-upon timelines.

The meeting was attended by key stakeholders, including Edionwe Joel, Consultant to the Edo State Government on Investment Promotion; Chief L. A. Abbas, Chairman of the Monee International Market Board of Trustees; Chief Joseph Okoye, President General; and G. C. Igbokwe (SAN), Legal Adviser to Monee Market.

As discussions continue, both government and market stakeholders remain committed to achieving the swift completion and commissioning of the Monee International Market, fostering economic prosperity and development in Edo State.
