Nigeria Arsenal’s promising talent Chidozie Obi-Martin is poised to represent Denmark, his birth country, in his inaugural major tournament.

He has been named in Denmark’s squad for the 2024 European U-17 Championship.

The Danish Football Union unveiled the 20-player squad list on Monday, and the prolific Arsenal U-18 striker is among the players set to compete in Cyprus later this month.

Obi-Martin enters the tournament in stellar form, having scored in eight consecutive matches in the U-18 Premier League, bringing his season total to an impressive 29 goals.

Breaking Folarin Balogun’s record, the Glostrup-born player has set a new benchmark for the most League goals scored by an Arsenal U-18 player in a single season.

Having debuted for Denmark’s U-17 national team in a friendly against Norway in August 2023, he has since amassed 10 goals in 14 appearances for the age group.

As he gears up for the tournament in Cyprus, Obi-Martin aims to follow in the footsteps of two Nigerian players associated with Chelsea, Victor Moses and Dominic Solanke. Moses and Solanke emerged as top scorers in the U-17 EURO in 2007 and 2014, respectively.
