Edo State Government, through the Ministry of Social Development and Gender Issues and in adherence with its inclusiveness in governance and provision of welfare services, has presented cheques to two families for the purchase of a motorized wheel chair to enhance easy movement, and also financial assistance to a vulnerable woman who had been beaten up and accused of witchcraft by the members of her community in Agenebode, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State.

Presenting the Cheque to Mrs. Ann Ojugo, the Commissioner for Social Development and Gender Issues, Hon. Christabel Ekwu emphasised the Obaseki led administration’s commitment towards persons with disabilities.

“Today, on behalf of the Edo State Government, led by Mr. Godwin Obaseki, I present this cheque to you to enable you purchase an automatic motorized wheel chair to enable you move round the city.

“It will be recalled that this present administration includes and supports persons living with disabilities, hence the passage of the disabilities right into law, monthly allowance to the Persons with Disabilities (PWD) Association to enable them cater for the needs of their members and the programming of employment processes which would give preference to persons with disabilities (PWD)”. Hon. Ekwu noted.

On her part, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Social Development and Gender Issues, Babara Osobajo, while presenting the Cheque to Mrs. Asekhome Angella, noted that the Government frowns against all forms of ill treatment meted on widows.

“Edo State Government is totally against all forms of harmful traditions and is fully set on bringing the culprits to book, as the case is still ongoing”. She said.

Meanwhile, Ann Ojugo, Chairperson of Persons With Disabilities Association appreciated the State Government for its benevolent attributes and its empathy for the vulnerable in the State.

The recipient, Mrs. Asekhome Angella thanked the Government for showing her care and concerned.
