The Federal High Court in Abuja has given June 27 as date for the arraignment of former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, accused by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of money laundering to the tune of N80.2 billion, who was again absent in court yesterday.
Yesterday’s proceeding was for his arraignment, but his counsel informed the court that parties in the matter had previously reached an agreement for another date, June 27, to produce him as June 13 wasn’t convenient.
Adeola Adedipe informed the court that the meeting was called by Kemi Pinheiro, EFCC’s lead counsel, and said there must be a “misalignment of communication” within the anti-graft agency for Rotimi Oyedepo of the EFCC, present in court, to be unaware of the meeting.
Rotimi Oyedepo dismissed the submission of Bello’s counsel, stating he’s unaware of any such meeting being held.
This therefore prompted the judge, Emeka Nwite, to adjourn the matter again till June 27, stating that Yahaya Bello must appear based on the undertaking by the defendant’s lead counsel, Abdulwahab Mohammed, as it concerns bringing him to court.
