Edo State Investment Promotion Office (ESIPO)-Ease of Doing Business Secretariat, has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to empowering women-led micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in order to break the market access barriers inhibiting the growth of women-led MSMEs in the country.

ESIPO made this declaration through a statement during the “Women MSMEs Market Access Barriers Engagement” held on July 16th, 2024, in Benin City.

Kelvin Uwaibi, Managing Director of ESIPO and Secretary EoDB Council, delivered a powerful message of support through a sensitization speech presented by Abdul-Kadir Abdullah, Team Lead, Investment Promotion and Global Outreach.

Uwaibi assured the women MSMEs that ESIPO is not only a resource for addressing their questions and concerns but actively welcomes their recommendations on how to further streamline the ease of doing business in Edo State. This collaborative approach underscores ESIPO’s dedication to fostering a business environment that propels women entrepreneurs forward.

Highlighting the state government’s ongoing efforts, he outlined several key initiatives.

According to him, “The Ease of Doing Business Council has been established to identify and address challenges faced by businesses, the council comprises heads of relevant government ministries. MSME Council has also been approved by the governor, this council specifically caters to the needs of all MSMEs, including those led by women”

“Recognizing the need for simplified procedures, the state is actively developing a one-stop shop to facilitate a smoother business experience. We are conducting Edo State Business Enabling Environment Survey to gather valuable feedback that will directly inform policy formulation.

“We are encouraging you to participate. We are open to receive recommendations. We are ready to push as far as it is to improve the business environment.”

In his opening remark, Nosa Obayuwana, the Edo State coordinator for the GIZ SEDIN Programme, emphasized the event’s purpose to identify and understand the barriers and develop effective strategies to empower women MSMEs and expand their market reach.

The event, organized by GIZ SEDIN, brought together key stakeholders to create a united front in addressing the unique market access challenges faced by women MSMEs.

Valuable presentations on market access barriers and industry insights provided attendees with essential knowledge on how to enhance their market access.

Additionally, women MSMEs gained insights into support services offered by the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Equipment Leasing Association of Nigeria and Fiducial, a financial service provider. This collaborative effort, spearheaded by GIZ and ESIPO, demonstrates a strong commitment to equipping women MSMEs with the tools and resources they need to thrive.
