Simon Moses, the 28-year-old forward for Nantes FC and the Nigerian national team, Super Eagles, has suffered his second injury of 2024.
This latest setback comes after Moses had just recovered from a fractured fibula that kept him sidelined for three months towards the end of the 2023-24 season.
The injury, which was announced by Nantes in the latter part of the 2023-24 season, effectively ended Moses’ season, Soccernet.ng reports.
However, Moses made a swift comeback and played a crucial role in securing a victory for Nantes in their pre-season friendly against Laval.
Unfortunately, reports now indicate that he has picked up another injury, casting doubt on his availability for the Super Eagles’ upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic.
Nantes manager Antoine Kombouaré expressed his concern over Moses’ injury ahead of the new season, stating, “The two little worries are Simon (Moses) with his ankle still giving me problems and then little Adel (Mahamoud) who hurt his knee. I hope it’s not too serious,” as quoted by Nantes Tribune.
Moses previously missed Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against South Africa and Benin Republic, where the Super Eagles drew and lost respectively. His absence was deeply felt in these crucial matches, and the Super Eagles now risk being without him again for their upcoming qualifiers.
The skills of the former Levante forward were sorely missed in the two crucial clashes, and the Super Eagles face the possibility of his absence once more in their upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic.
The extent of Moses’ injury is yet to be confirmed, but Nantes and the Super Eagles will be hoping for a swift recovery to minimize his absence.
