Chairman, Etsako East Local Government Council, Hon. (Princess) Benedicta Attoh, has described women as the binding cord of democracy, saying without the solidarity of women in politics democracy would be dead.

The Council boss, who spoke at the local government council headquarters in Agenebode during an enlarged meeting of all women leaders in the local government, assured women that their voices will be acknowledged across the state when Dr. Asue Ighodalo is elected as the next governor, adding that his victory will serve as a catalyst for women to showcase their capacity and relevance in governance.

“As the cord that binds democracy, the forthcoming governorship election in Edo State offers us another landmark opportunity to demonstrate our capacity. Asue Ighodalo is looking to all of us as the binding cord of democracy and we must not let him down. He has promised to make women the most acknowledged voice in his administration, and it behoves us to earn it.”

According to her, “Ighodalo will open a new window of opportunities for women and his tenure as a governor will be a new dawn for Edo women. It will be a new dawn of development, and a new dawn of women visibility. We must therefore position ourselves as women by actively participating in the forthcoming governorship election in order for us to secure our place”, she said.

“I know those women who are currently working tirelessly to ensure that Asue Ighodalo emerges as the next governor. Do not be discouraged, do not give up. Women are the greatest beneficiaries of good governance and the greatest sufferers of a bad one. Asue Ighodalo, the PDP candidate, represents good governance.

“A vote for him is a vote for your own benefits; a vote against him is a vote for continuity of hardship and frustration. We don’t need a government that will strengthen our hardship but the one that will remove us from lamentations,” she said.

Hon. Attoh however charged the women leaders and others present to be committed and be ready to leave behind an outstanding legacy in the election.

“You have the task of supporting and mobilising people for the victory of the PDP candidate in his desire to build a virile democracy that entails sustainable economic development and social advancement of women”.
