The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Mrs. Olukemi Victoria Iyantan as a Commissioner of the National Population Commission (NPC), representing Ondo State. This was finalized during the Senate’s plenary session on Thursday.
The confirmation followed a recommendation made by the Senate Committee on National Identity Card and National Population, chaired by Senator Abdul Ningi (PDP, Bauchi Central). In presenting the committee’s report, Senator Ningi emphasized that Mrs. Iyantan’s credentials and her public service experience made her an ideal candidate for the role. He highlighted her distinguished background and service record as justification for her confirmation by the Senate.
Following the presentation, the Senate moved into a committee of the whole to deliberate on the recommendation, conducting a clause-by-clause review before officially confirming Mrs. Iyantan’s appointment.
In his closing remarks after the confirmation, Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, who presided over the session, encouraged Mrs. Iyantan to collaborate with her fellow commissioners and the Chairman of the NPC to ensure progress in the commission’s duties.
