A total of twelve thousand newly admitted students of both ND and HND into Auchi Polytechnic were yesterday matriculated at the 32nd matriculation of the polytechnic.
Performing the oath of matriculation on the students, the Rector, Auchi Polytechnic, Dr. (Mrs.) Philipa O. Idogho urged the newly admitted students to be law abiding for the period they would stay in the school as the institution is governed by rules and regulations.
While congratulating the students on the success of their admission into the polytechnic, the Rector urged the students to make use of the opportunity they have gotten as the polytechnic is one of the best institutions in the country.
According to her, “all students are expected to be disciplined and ensure that they attend seventy-five percent of lectures before they can be qualify to write any examinations in the school”, warning that cheating in any form and all fraudulent practices during examinations are prohibited or forbidden.
She said the polytechnic has a verification mechanism for ensuring that students with fake credentials are detected as some students have a way of presenting fake credentials for the purpose of gaining admission into higher institutions in the country. Adding that when caught, sanction is expulsion while it is rustication for examination malpractices.
She charged the students to be courageous to report cases of blocking and harassment to meet certain demands of any staff to their Heads of Department or the Dean of Students Affairs to enable management take appropriate action as the polytechnic frowned at this development of any kind.
“The polytechnic is determined to make the learning environment conducive for you so that you can optimize your time for learning” she added
“More so, the library facilities have been improved with the recent completion of the two-phase expansion in addition with internet facility provided”.
As a way of preventing fatal accidents and loss of precious lives by the students at the poly main gate, she said management had appealed to the federal government for the construction of a pedestrian bridge across the Benin-Abuja highway which has now been completed, commissioned and put to use and however appealed to the students to take advantage of the provision of the bridge by using it for the safety of their lives.
She told the students to be careful of the company they keep and the clubs and societies they belong to, saying that the polytechnic has a list of approved clubs and societies. She however advised the students to double check with the Students Affairs Division before signing into membership of any association as the polytechnic management frowned at membership of any cult groups in the school.
Meanwhile, the Student Union Government (SUG) 2014/2015 session led by its president, Comrade Sani Kafeel Abdulkadiri used the occasion to present educational Award for Excellence to the Rector, Dr. Mrs. Philipa Idogho
Presenting the award, Comrade Abdulkadiri said the award is in appreciation of the laudable infrastructural development recorded by the Rector in the past 7 years and the placement of the institution as the best in the sub-Sahara Africa.
