The Edo State First Lady, Dr. (Mrs.) Betsy Obaseki has presented the Betsy Obaseki Award to the top three Local Government Areas (LGAs) for their outstanding performance in the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccination campaign.
The award ceremony took place on Thursday, October 10 at the Festival Hall, Government House, Benin City, the Edo State capital.
Earlier in the year, the HPV vaccination campaign was flagged off by the First Lady on May 27, 2024, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium. The exercise which is an initiative of the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA) aimed to vaccinate girls aged 9 to 14 to protect them from cervical cancer.
As part of the campaign, health workers across the 18 LGAs worked diligently to ensure that young girls were vaccinated, helping to protect Edo’s teenage girls from cervical cancer.
The First Lady, Dr. (Mrs.) Betsy Obaseki praised the award recipients for their hard work and encouraged them to keep striving for more achievements. She also emphasized the importance of prioritizing the health of the Edo Child.
Oredo LGA took 1st place and received a cash prize of 300,000 Naira. Esan North East LGA came in 2nd place, receiving 200,000 Naira, while Etsako Central LGA took 3rd place with a prize of 100,000 Naira.
In his remark, the Executive Secretary, EDSPHCDA Dr. Omosigho Izedonmwen, thanked the First Lady for honouring the awardees. He also congratulated the recipients on their achievements.
Present at the event were EDSPHCDA Directors, Consultants, staff representatives from the Ministry of Social Development and Gender Issues, and technical partners like the World Health Organization (WHO).
