BENIN CITY – The Edo State Government has shed light on the operational challenges surrounding its e-governance platform and its plans to address them for a more transparent and efficient system.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Ikhilor Esq., stated that Governor Monday Okpebholo has ordered an immediate review of the entire e-governance platform to resolve underlying issues that hinder its effectiveness.
The review aims to restore institutional memory and grant the state full administrative control over the system.
Ikhilor disclosed that the platform is currently operated from a backend managed by unknown non-state actors, with no government official in the public service having administrative control.
This alarming revelation, he said has necessitated the review to ensure the platform serves its intended purpose of enhancing governance rather than undermining it.
“The e-governance platform of the Edo State Government, as it stands, lacks institutional memory and is being controlled by non-state actors.
“This is unacceptable, as it undermines the transparency and functionality of government operations,” Ikhilor stated.
“Despite the planned review, the SSG directed officials in Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to continue working on the platform to avoid disruptions to government activities while efforts are underway to address the lapses.
The review will focus on securing the platform, making it fully operational under state control, and ensuring it aligns with the government’s agenda of fostering transparency, efficiency, and accountability in public service.
The state government reassures its citizens of its commitment to resolving these issues promptly and providing a more robust e-governance system that will serve the interest of Edo State and its people.nige
