BENIN CITY – The Edo State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has hosted its third Monthly Public Lecture, themed “Governance & Prosperity in Edo State: Options & Challenges.”
The event brought together policymakers, professionals, and community leaders to discuss governance challenges and propose strategies for sustainable development in the state.
In his opening address, Dr. James-Wisdom Abhulimen, Chairman of Edo State NIPR, congratulated Senator Monday Okpebholo on his election as Edo State’s Executive Governor, describing it as a reflection of the people’s trust and aspirations.
He emphasized the NIPR’s commitment to promoting transparency, professional ethics, and good governance, which he identified as crucial for driving socio-economic growth.
The keynote speaker, Prof. Felix Oriakhi of the Federal University, Otuoke, delivered an insightful lecture that underscored the need for ethical leadership, improved education, accessible healthcare, and investment in agriculture to advance Edo State’s development.
He called for comprehensive infrastructure development, youth empowerment, and economic diversification to enhance revenue generation, reduce inefficiencies, and secure long-term growth.
Tourism was also highlighted as a key area for investment, with Prof. Oriakhi advocating for leveraging the state’s cultural and natural assets to drive economic expansion and attract investments.
Dr. Abhulimen praised Governor Okpebholo for his proactive steps since assuming office and urged the administration to focus on critical areas such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, and economic diversification.
He stressed that inclusive growth and improved living standards for all Edo citizens should remain top priorities.
The event ended with a call to action for collaboration among stakeholders to transform Edo State into a model of governance and prosperity, turning aspirations into realities.
