BENIN CITY- Edo State Police Command has mobilized over 7,800 Police officers to provide adequate security before, during and after tomorrow’s Presidential and National Assembly elections in the state.
Spokesman, Edo Police Command, DSP Joseph Edoigiawerie disclosed this in his office yesterday.
DSP Edoigiawrie further revealed that the officers and men have also been paid their allowances relating to the elections.
He assured that those on election duty would not in any way reduce the regular security of lives and property of members of the public as police stations and patrols remain active.
“Over 7,800 officers and men have been deployed for election duty, but that does not also stop us from our traditional duties.
“That does not mean that the police stations would be closed and the patrol would be stopped.
“We are doing all together the same time to ensure adequate security of lives and property”, DSP Edoigiawerie stated.
He however, added that the state police Command has also put in place strategies that would contain any form of violence during and after the polls.
DSP Edoigiawerie appealed to politicians and their supporters to play the game by the rules as the Electoral Act has spelt out the dos and don’t of elections in Nigeria.
