Enugu- Several residents of Enugu took to the streets in celebration as the news of the judgment of a Federal High Court, Abuja confirmed Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as the authentic PDP governorship candidate of the state.
The reports state that the residents were seen in offices and drinking joints rejoicing over the victory.
Some of the residents, who spoke to Journalists described the judgment as “victory for democracy.’’
The Chief of Staff to Gov. Sullivan Chime of Enugu State, Mr Victor Atuonwu, described it as ‘victory for the people of Enugu State and continuation of the good works of Governor Sullivan Chime.’
He urged aggrieved members of the party to cooperate with Ugwuanyi to move the state forward.
“This is a victory for democracy. It shows that God has endorsed Ugwuanyi to continue the existing good governance established by Gov Chime,’’ he said.
On his part, an Enugu based politician, Mr Kizito Aniagolu described the judgment as “ divine intervention for the good people of Enugu State.’’
“Today, God has announced His judgment that Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and Mrs Cecilla Ezeilo are the authentic governorship flag bearers of the PDP in Enugu State,’’ he said.
Mrs Nkem Onyema, Enugu State Coordinator of Women for Change and Initiative, an NGO, said the judgment would bring peace and tranquility to the state.
“This judgment is the decision of the people of Enugu State and the voice of the people is the voice of God. We are happy for this judgment.
“The women of the state are happy because Ugwuanyi is our candidate,’’ Onyema added.
Sen. Ayogu Eze of the PDP had filed a suit with reference number FHC/ABJ/CS/2014, before the court challenging the nomination of Ugwuanyi as the governorship candidate of the party for the April 11 governorship election in Enugu State.
