Lagos – Chief Olu Falae, National Chairman, Social Democratic Party (SDP), on Thursday urged the President-elect, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, to implement the 2014 National Conference report on assumption of office.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had on Wednesday declared Buhari, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Candidate, the winner of March 28 Presidential election.
Falae, a former Secretary to the Federal Government, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the implementation of the report would help to revamp and re-launch the country.
“I want to advise Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari that he should see government as a continuum.
“I urge him that as soon as he is inaugurated and settle down to initiate action on the implementation of the report of the 2014 National Conference.
“’The implementation of that report in my humble opinion is the blueprint for restructuring Nigeria, revamping Nigeria and re-launching Nigeria into a new orbit,’’ he said.
Falae, who congratulated the President-elect for the victory, said his election would send signal that rampant corruption would no longer be tolerated.
“It send a signal that the rampant corruption will no longer be tolerated and that public officers must disengage from corruption and take their career seriously with leadership by example.’’
He also commended INEC for the conduct of the election and urged the commission to avoid hitches such as late arrival of materials and staff, absence of result sheets and the failure of the Smart Card Reader machines.
“’I feel proud as a Nigerian that the outcome of the election, for the first time in Nigeria possibly in Africa, power changed hands peacefully from one political party to another through the ballot box,’’ Falae said.
The former Secretary to the Federal Government described President Goodluck Jonathan as a “statesman’’ for conceding defeat even before the final announcement of the result. (NAN)
