The new Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has ordered road contractors back to work immediately and start fixing the bad roads in Benin City.
During the Governor’s visit to Upper Mission Extension Road near Aduwawa Junction and Ramat Park, at the site near Aduwawa Junction, he said that his administration, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda, is committed to restoring hope for the people of Edo State. He also expressed concern over the poor state of the roads, assuring that work would commence immediately, emphasising that Edo people deserve good, motorable roads.
According to Okpebholo, “During the campaigns, I promised to hit the ground running. Today, I ordered contractors back to the sites. We have no time to waste. We promised our people that we would fix and construct the roads. There is only one dry season in a year, and now is the time to act. Edo people should expect good things to happen. We will fix our roads and ensure our people enjoy the dividends of democracy.”
Work will soon begin on several roads, including the 7.5km Temboga Road, Lucky Way Junction by Aduwawa, and areas around Ramat Park. Additional projects are also planned for Eyaen Road and Obadan Junction along the Benin/Auchi Expressway.
Governor Okpebholo, who was sworn in on November 12, with his deputy, Dennis Idahosa, had earlier promised to focus on road construction as a priority. The day ended with the opening of a new branch of Premium Trust Bank in Benin City.
As the roads are now being rehabilitated, farmers will have easier access to their farms, reducing transportation costs and increasing productivity.
