WORRY, anxiety and emotional outburst if continued for a long period will cause great over activity of the thyroid, adrenal and pituitary glands whose increased secretions in the blood are antagonistic and suppressive to the insulin secretion of the pancreas.
This suppression of the insulin secretion stops the final break-up of glycogen into lactic acid and the lactic acid into carbon dioxide and water in the tissues and muscles, so that, some intermediary and harmful product (possibly, pyretic acid) whose nature is not definitely, known is retained in joint tissues and especially, in the muscles, causing a chronic irritation of these structures leading often to the formation of calcified and fibrotic deposits causing spasm and wasting of muscles and immobility of joint accompanied by unbearable pulling, pinching and shooting pains.
There are no signs of redness, inflammation and swelling of the joints, nor is the pain hot and burning in character as, in gout or as in acute particular rheumatism.
In these cases of arthritis due to disturbed or perverted carbohydrate metabolism diabetes is not present, there is no sugar in the urine and the blood is not increased. Therefore, the diet need not be restricted in the same manner as in diabetes.
Protein and fat may be indulged in the same amounts as before the onset of the arthritis. But the starches and sugars and all food containing them should be greatly restricted for a few week. For the first week use vegetables low in carbohydrates to replace bread at meals.
Nothing will relieve this type of arthritis except rest, relaxation, freedom from worry and anxiety and the placing of the sufferer on the diet free from purines.
This method of treatment will work like a charm and in a week or two the patient will be entirely free of the excruciating pain which deprived sleep and sapped the vitality, the joints involved will loosen and become freely movable and hard deposits around them will melt away.
Long observation show that the above condition in both male and female and menopause in women, produces a great disturbance in the hormone (adrenal and thyroid) and enzyme. System, resulting in an abnormal and incomplete metabolism of the food taken in, also, interfering with internal cell metabolism. These abnormal, even poisonous, metabolic, products upset the entire physio-chemical process by which a balanced state of well-being is maintained in the body.
Extra amounts of calcium, normally removed from the blood and eliminated are deposited instead in the joint, burseis, on the ends of the bones and in muscles. Here they cause great pressure on nerves, giving rise to the most excruciating pain besides crippling the structures affected.
Calcium is not the only troublesome substance in arthritis. Pyruvic acid, a product of the incomplete oxidation of protein and carbohydrate, will circulate in the blood and do great damage to many body tissues. Pyruvic acid is even considered a cause of allergy.
Any person may act like an automaton when dominated by emotions of fear or anger not that, it is ethical or righteous to act that way. In such instances, the entire organism becomes concentrated on the muscular response of self defense or revenge and it strikes out blindly like an animal just like a cat pulling itself together and scratching the air with its raw when suddenly meeting a strange and vicious dog.
In such instances, the thinking ability of the higher faculties goes entirely out of commission, the man acts only reflexlty like a sacred cat, ready to pounce. The normal individual will regret such loss of temper, thinking twice before losing his head again under similar circumstances. But some people develop a fear or more suspicion, respond to it in an emotional and automatic fashion without restraint and without regret, with the result that after such repeated responses the fear becomes an obsession and the response a habit.
In time, such persons expand their fear to include everything and everybody, become hostile and at loggerheads with their entire environment, against which they wage a constant battle without halt or respite.
Research shows that all this trouble results from not holding counsel with our higher brain faculties reason, judgment, contemplation and will power. Because, these faculties were not brought into play to check and annihilate the first suspicious fear or respond to it with reason and restraint the automatic behaviour as described above results.
The best way to overcome this kind of subconscious embattled behaviour is by restraining oneself and in the constant use of the wide – awake mind. Thus you will not be misled into automatic behaviour, but will make adjustments to reality. Hence the saying “fear none except the creator. Never be given to suspicious hate or vengeance. Treat people with kindness and politeness”.
Excessive emotionalism and excitement make the adrenalin which keep the small arteries contracted, thus, offering great resistance to the heart action, causing high blood pressure and in the end, arteriosclerosis. Too much adrenalin in the blood also acts as a poison, which directly injuries the arteries.
