The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has reiterated his commitment to enhancing the welfare of police officers by redeveloping deteriorating barracks nationwide.
Speaking during a meeting with experts and development consultants at the IGP Smart Conference Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja, the IGP emphasized that creating a conducive living environment is crucial for effective policing. He expressed optimism that the initiative would significantly improve officers’ conditions of service.
The barracks redevelopment project is part of a comprehensive housing blueprint designed to address longstanding accommodation challenges faced by police personnel.
This followed the Police Housing Summit held earlier this year, from April 23–24, 2024.
During the meeting, the Nigeria Police Property Development and Construction Company, along with other stakeholders, presented progress updates and strategies to the IGP and the Force Management Team to fast-track the project’s delivery.
As part of the plan, legal occupants of affected barracks are being supported through a seamless relocation process.
They have received relocation allowances and assistance to secure alternative accommodation during the construction phase, alongside their regular rent allowances.
Upon completion of the new housing facilities, these officers will be allocated units in the redeveloped barracks.
IGP Egbetokun assured stakeholders that the barracks redevelopment initiative remains a top priority, underscoring his dedication to timely completion and adherence to high standards.
He noted that the project reflects a broader commitment to improving the welfare of police officers, thereby enhancing the operational efficiency and effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force.
