DAMATURU – The Federal Government has said that it would take measures to sustain the gains of the military in the fight against insurgents in North East.
Dr. Abdu Bulama, the Minister of Science and Technology, said this in Damaturu when he visited some parents whose children were murdered by insurgents that invaded Federal Government College, Buni Yadi, Yobe state, in 2014.
He said that government would ensure that the recovered areas enjoyed relative stability to enable residents that fled their town, return home as soon as possible.
“The Federal Government shares with you, the pain of this brutal and senseless killing of innocent and promising young men.
“The pain of losing these students had remained with Mr President and the government for the past one year; we are together and will remain with you,” he said.
The minister promised that government would rehabilitate the school, adding that the college would not be moved to another place.
“Let me assure you that there are no plans to relocate the school.
“ Moreover, with the improvement in the security situation in the area now, the college will be rehabilitated to provide educational opportunities to the people.”
In his response, Alhaji Kati Machina, Chairman of the Parents’ Teachers Association (PTA) of the college, thanked the minister for visiting them.
He said the college had produced notable Nigerians serving the country in various capacities and should be rehabilitated at as soon as possible.
The reports state that 29 students were killed by the insurgents.
