…calls for peace ahead of polls among political leaders and stakeholders
The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), in the forthcoming September 21 gubernatorial election in Edo State, Osarenren Derek Izedonmwen, has condemn in its entirety the violent shooting by suspected political thugs, describing it as unnecessary and shameful act.
The incident which took place on Thursday, along Airport Road in Benin City, the Edo State capital saw residents and passer-by scampering for safety.
The ADC candidate called for a peaceful atmosphere as the state approaches a crucial election that will decide who governs the state for the next four years. He urged all political actors and stakeholders to refrain from violence and engage in dialogue to resolve their differences.
In his word “I strongly condemn the violent shooting by suspected political thugs that took place in Benin City, it is totally unacceptable for such incident to be happening at this point in time of our democracy.
“Am using this opportunity to sue for peace as we approach the election and call on all political actors, stakeholders to refrain from violence and engage in dialogue to resolve their differences, because violence has no place in Edo State. We are peace loving people.”
Izedonmwen admonish security agencies to tighten security within the state as the success of the governorship poll will depend largely on the active participation and cooperation of all stakeholders, including political leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, the media, civil society, election observers, indigents and residents of Edo State.
