The Lagos State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Akin Orebiyi yesterday revealed that the commission’s headquarters is yet to release 430,000 Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) to the State.
Orebiyi who dropped the hint yesterday while demonstrating the use of the Card Reader Machine (CRM) to Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola at the State House, Ikeja, Lagos, disclosed that 430,000 PVCs were still being awaited from Abuja for Lagos, saying hopefully, the PVCs would arrive Lagos next week.
He also hinted that 1.8 million Lagosians were yet to collect their PVCs out of the 5.5 million already released to the State, urging them to come forward to collect them.
The INEC REC added that Lagos has the highest number of registered voters with 5,822,207 people registered out of the 68,833,476 registered voters nationwide, adding that Kano has the second largest registered voters with 4,975,701 registered voters.
He said so far, only 3,693,000 Lagosians had so far collected their PVCs, adding that INEC had deployed 8,462 of its staff to various polling units in Lagos between now and Sunday for Lagosians to collect them at the polling units.
Speaking at the event, Fashola urged INEC to also display the use of card reader machine to political parties by convening a meeting of all political parties in the state for the purpose of enlightening them on the use of the machine.
