OGOJA (Cross River) – Mrs. Rita Ayim, Chairman, Ogoja Local Government Area, Cross River, has urged petroleum products dealers in the area to sell petrol at N87 per liter as directed by the Federal Government.
Ayim made the call in Ogoja in an interview with newsmen.
She said that the call had become necessary because dealers in the area had refused to comply with the government directive, thereby exploiting the people without any justification.
The council chairman called on relevant authorities, including officials of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to visit the area and ensure compliance.
“It is unfortunate that up till now, transporters and other vehicle users in Ogoja have yet to feel the impact of the reduction in the pump price of petrol by the government.
“The reduction was due to the drop in crude oil price in the international market.
“Government considered it necessary to reduce the pump price of petrol in the interest of Nigerian masses, but some people prefer to make things difficult for others,’’ Ayim, said.
The chairman also advised registered voters in the area who had not collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) to go to their wards and do so immediately.
Ayim reminded the people that without the PVCs, they would not be allowed to vote for the candidate of their choice at the March 28 and April 11 general elections.
