Port Harcourt – The Nigerian Navy Forwarding Operating Base (FOB) in Bonny, Rivers State, has arrested seven men, suspected to be sea pirates.
The Naval authority stated that the suspected sea pirates had been carrying out nefarious operations on the Bonny-Port Harcourt waterways.
The Base Commanding Officer, Navy Captain Hassan Dogara, who handed the suspects to the Nigeria Police, in Bonny, yesterday, said the suspects were arrested, while robbing the crew of a vessel, MT Annah.
He also disclosed that the items recovered from the men included two AK 47 rifles, 90 rounds of ammunition, nine GSM phones and the sum of N5,800.
Inspector Nicholas Gbaralel of the Bonny Police Station, who received the suspects on behalf of the police assured that the suspects would be prosecuted accordingly.
Some of the suspected sea pirates, who spoke to journalists, however, denied committing the crime. The suspects maintained that they were ship workers and knew nothing about the alleged crime.
