The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) in its effort to create more awareness about data protection and privacy, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with social media influencer, Enioluwa Adeoluwa.
The Nigeria Data Protection Act, which established the commission, was signed into law on June 12, 2023 by president Bola Tinubu. Since then, the commission, being led by the National Commissioner/CEO, Dr Olatunji, has been working actively to ensure that every Nigerian understands his/her privacy rights.
Dr Olatunji, stated that no less than 40 million Nigerians use social media daily, highlighting the importance of data protection and privacy.
He explained the reason for the MoU stating that it was signed in order to increase the people’s awareness about data protection and privacy in Nigeria, helping individuals understand their privacy rights and also ensuring that data controllers and processors are aware of their obligations.
Dr Olatunji further emphasised that with Enioluwa’s social media following, “This partnership will aid in educating the public about the Commission’s mandate and in advancing its roadmap for awareness creation”.
Enioluwa, while commenting on his reason for working with the Commission, stated that he was motivated to work not because of the remuneration, but as a means of contributing his quota to national development. He further encouraged young people to participate in nation building as we hope to make Nigeria great again.
