ABUJA – The new Minister of Information, Sen. Patricia Akwashiki, has pledged to adequately enlighten Nigerians on the achievements of the Jonathan administration in various sectors of the economy.
She made the pledge at a meeting with the management and staff of the Federal Ministry of Information on Wednesday in Abuja.
The minister also pledged to work with the management and staff of the ministry to adequately inform Nigerians about the policies and programmes of the present administration in the country.
“I will work with everybody in the ministry because our aims and objectives are to try as best we can to enlighten Nigerians about the achievements of this administration.
She was received by the Director, Public Communications in the Ministry, Mr Emmanuel Agbegri.
She advised Nigerians to ensure violence-free elections.
“ My advice to the people is to be peaceful, before, during and after elections.
“They should ensure that the forthcoming general elections are conducted without hurting one another, she urged.
The new minister also advised eligible voters to ensure that they collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), to enable them to exercise their franchise.
Akwashiki, who was born on November 2, 1953, holds a Bachelors Degree in Education from the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria in 1982.
She worked in the banking industry, where she became a senior manager before venturing into politics.
She was elected into the Federal House of Representatives in 2003 on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
She was later elected as a senator representing Nasarawa North Senatorial district in 2007 on the platform of the then All Nigeria People‘s Party (ANPP).
