BENIN CITY – The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Internal Revenue Service, (EIRS), Chief Sir Oseni Elamah has been described as a man with wealth of experience who is in touch with virtually all latest developments across board in the society.
The Zonal Coordinator of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Pharm. Chinyere Uduaka, said this when he led other executive members on a courtesy visit to the EIRS boss in Benin City.
Uduaka who acknowledged the phenomenal facelift of the revenue agency under Chief Elamah, said they were in his office to sensitize staff on the need to key into the health insurance pool programme, where Nigerians are expected to come under one insurance scheme.
He said that the NHIS has designed a programme known as Health Insurance Pool where all Nigerians, including private/government organizations and individuals are expected to contribute their quota that would be used to carter for their future health challenges.
The NHIS Zonal Co-ordinator however expressed the body’s readiness to partner with the developmental progress of the EIRS and the state at large.
Responding, the Executive Chairman, Edo State Internal Revenue, picked hole in the ways and manners some Federal Government institutions run their programmes to the detriment of the common people.
According to him, certain issues are bound to be raised when an institution does not ensure the safety of the public in the area of openness and transparency.
He pointed out that the law mandated the revenue agency as an autonomous institution to render professional services to the government.
The EIRS boss said that in line with its philosophy, the agency has been able to build a tax-friendly environment, assuring of the EIRS readiness to partner with NHIS.
