ASABA – Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan has stated that no position or office is worth killing or dying for.
The Governor stated this in Asaba at the Delta Peace Accord organized by the Delta State Police Command for all candidates of the various political parties in the state that are contesting in the next general elections.
Dr Uduaghan thanked the security agencies for their role in ensuring a violence free polls noting that the biggest challenge is how politicians behave before, during and after the elections.
“I welcome everyone of you to this meeting which I know will be pivotal to the success of the 2015 general election. For an election to become violent there must have been signs of violence. I am happy that we have passed through that stage. I thank the security agencies for what they are doing. You may not appreciate them until you are affected by what they do.
The process of the primaries of any party can be a major source of violence but for us in Delta we have had it very smooth. I want to thank the politicians also for the way they have conducted themselves during the process of the campaigns.”
Continuing; “When I withdrew from the Senatorial race, many people were sad while many insulted me but that singular decision saved so many lives that would have been lost to the crisis that would have ensued. That tough decision prevent children from being thrown into the fire like it was done in the 2003 crisis, the decision also prevented villages from being sacked.”
According to him; “As I have always said, no position is what killing or dying for hence my decision to quit the Senatorial race. I therefore appeal to all our candidates especially those seeking my office to take it easy because only one person can occupy the position at a time. A period of eight years is very short and four years is even shorter and you will all be back to the field again,” The Governor advised.
