THE Nigerian Urban Reproductive Health Initiative (NURHI) has donated a Hyundai ix35 SUV to Edo State Ministry of Health to help sustain campaign and advocacy for family planning and safe motherhood in the state.
NURHI, a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) funded by Bill and Melinda Gates is at the forefront of advocacy for family Planning, child spacing and safe motherhood in five Nigerian Urban centres, which include Ibadan, Lagos, Benin, Zaria and Kaduna.
The vehicle was bought brand new and used as project vehicle by the Benin Field Office of NURHI between October 2012 and December 2014. The project formally closed in the state on 9th December, 2014.
The Advocacy Adviser to NURHI Mrs. Charity Ibeawuchi: who presented the vehicle on behalf of Mrs. Mojisola Odeku, Project Director NURHI to the State Commissioner of Health, Dr. (Mrs.) Aihanuwa Eregie, said the agency is leaving the state happy and satisfied with its achievements in family planning propagation during its two years of work in Benin.
Her words “we thank you for the collaboration, we are happy indeed that you and all the stakeholders acknowledged the success of the project and the positive impact we made on the lives of women, children and families in Edo State.
Mrs. Ibeawuchi informed the Commissioner that NURHI was delighted to see that family advocacy continues to be at the front burner in the state. Adding that “we want family planning advocacy sustained in Edo State because we believe in sustainability”
In her Response, the State Commissioner, Dr. Mrs. Aihanuwa Eregie, who received the keys and documents of the project vehicle on behalf of the Ministry, thanked the management of NURHI for the gift and the robust campaign on family planning services it carried out for a period of two years in the state. She expressed satisfaction that NURHI appreciates assistance given them by the state government to help achieve their goals.
Dr. (Mrs.) Eregie also expressed gratitude to NURHI for donating family planning equipments and office equipments to three local government areas in the state namely, Oredo, Egor, and Ikpoba-Okha. Bambie (private) hospital as well as the Advocacy left behind by NURHI to sustain the family planning project in the state.
