SOKOTO – Voters in Sokoto State have commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as well as the security agencies for ensuring peaceful conduct of the Presidential and National Assembly elections in the state.
A cross-section of the respondents, who spoke with newsmen on Monday in Sokoto, specifically applauded INEC for deploying modern method of conducting election.
Alhaji Abubakar Umar of Arkilla quarters in Sokoto told newsmen that the prompt arrival of INEC officials and electoral materials indicated the commitment of the commission to ensure credible election.
He said that presence of security personnel at the the polling units had also boosted the confidence of eligible voters.
I think, the exercise was a huge success as for the first time Nigerian electorate can say that their votes were counted, “ he said.
Alhaji Abdullahi Bafarawa of Guiwa Low Cost in Sokoto town said that the peaceful conduct of the election was a clear indication that democracy had come to stay in Nigeria.
Mrs Mary Pam of Old Airport road, Sokoto, commended the security agencies for providing security during and after the elections.
“I am not aware of any political crisis or ballot box snatching in our area,” she said.
Alhaji . Kabiru Abubakar, another voter, said that INEC had met the expectation of Nigerians for conducting peaceful elections so far.
He said that the election was a good sign to come for the common good of the country.
Abubakar called for political understanding among Nigerians for peace, progress and political stability of the country.
Meanwhile, in a separate interview with newsmen in Sokoto on Monday, Alhaji Umar Faruk, UPN Gubernatorial Candidate in the state, also commended eligible voters for their maturity and patience during the elections in the state.
Umar said that the orderly conduct of the electorate was responsible for the peaceful conduct of the exercise.
He advised candidates in the elections to accept the outcome of the elections for peace and political stability in the country.
