BENIN CITY – Governor Adams Oshiomhole has assured the management of the Independent Television (ITV), Benin, whose studio was gutted by an inferno, Saturday night, that he would ensure the Police authorities get to the root of the incident.
Speaking, Monday, during a sympathy visit to the television station, owned by a PDP chieftain, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, Oshiomhole said the incident is very unfortunate.
According to him, ìI heard of the fire incident yesterday and when I looked at the places affected, even though the story doesnít give you the full impact of the damage to the studio and the recording equipment office.
ìIt is very unfortunate and since the General Manager has mentioned the possibility of somebody coming from outside to wreak the havoc, I can only hope you have informed the police and other security agencies for them to carry out a thorough investigation and establish exactly what happened.î
He said ìI think in todayís world, technology exists to be able to establish what happened but whatever happened there is no doubt that this is a huge loss to the proprietor, the management and the staff of ITV. Like I noted in my one paragraph statement here, even at that, we still thank God because there had been incidents like this that claimed lives. We thank God we are talking of loss of properties and no matter how intensive it was, no life was involved.
ìWe pray that this kind of thing never befalls ITV family again and that God gives the proprietor, management and staff of ITV the strength and enablement to replace what has been lost. I will also reach out to the police to encourage them to ensure they carry out a thorough investigation.
ìIn todayís world, you can establish from incidents like this exactly what happened. It is possible to do that scientificallyî, he noted.
