BENIN CITY – The Police in Edo have recovered large number of sophisticated arms and ammunition carted away by gunmen during attacks on some banks and police stations at Owo town in Ondo State, last month.
Also recovered from the robbers included 13 vehicles, 23 teargas canisters, a pair of police uniform, three police helmets and belt, N900, 000. 00 cash, Permanent Voter Card, belonging to one Tobi Ojo, and police ID card belonging to one Police Corporal Akomolafe Andrew.
Others were International Passport and Mainstream Bank withdrawal and savings passbook belonging to one Oshodi Oladipo, as well as Driver’s License bearing Dickson Kennedy Ojo.
The Commissioner of Police in Edo, Mr. Samuel Adegbuyi disclosed these while  briefing journalists of his command, recent achievements in crime bursting and control in the state.
COMPOL Adegbuyi stated that the hoodlums were intercepted at Ibillo, Edo State by his men who acted on a tip-off that some robbery gang had attacked some banks and police stations  and carted away unspecified amount of money, arms and ammunition at Owo in Ondo state.
“ The hoodlums headed towards Ibillo in Edo State where police operatives of the command intercepted them in a gun battle which made some of them to flee and abandon the under listed items while one suspect by name, Etopa Sadiq ‘m’ was arrested”, he stated.
Mr. Adegbuyi listed some of the recovered assorted riffles to include seven AK49, two pump action guns, two LAR rifles, two SMG, two Long Range Gunners, one chief revolver pistol and four TO6 Rifles.
He revealed that the command had lunched a manhunt for fleeing members of the gang.
In a chat with newsmen during the parade of the recovered arms, ammunition and 28 suspects, Etopa Sadiq denied knowledge of the Owo robbery and the arms recovered.
