LAFIA – Governor Umaru Al-makura of Nasarawa State has called on the citizenry to pray to God to assist the president-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, to succeed in the task ahead of him.
Al-makura told newsmen in Lafia that prayers were necessary if Buhari would successfully execute the task of nation building expected of him.
Al-Makura had earlier congratulated the president- elect through a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Yakubu Lamai .
“The newly elected president needs prayers from all and sundry. Prayer is the only weapon that can put Buhari on the right path to move the country forward”, he said.
Al-Makura urged both Muslims and Christians to prayer for peace, unity and progress of the nation. “The two religions preach peace, love and unity.
As such we should all adhere to the teachings of our Holy Books,” he told reporters. Al-makura also advised the party’s supporters to celebrate the victory with highest degree of decency.
He said by doing so, the supporters would be alive to enjoy the dividends of democracy under Buhari administration. “Don’t go out to display your happiness in such a way that you will go and kill yourself.
We can celebrate his victory in both mosques and churches”, the governor said. Al-makura also called on Nigerians to continue to tolerate and live in peace with one another, irrespective of religious, cultural or ethnic diversity.
He said peace and unity were key to national development, adding that the citizenry should work together to move the country forward.
