ABUJA – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday released results of the Presidential election held last Saturday across the country, in (18) eighteen states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) with the All Progressives Congress (APC), candidate, Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) leading in ten states.
From the results declared so far, Buhari, polled a total of 8,520,436 votes. He led in: Kogi, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Kwara, Ogun, Osun, Ondo and Oyo States. His votes represents 56.8 percent of the total votes declared.
He is closely followed by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Goodluck Jonathan who mustered a total of 6,488,210 votes representing 43.2 percent of the declared valid votes.
Dr. Jonathan led in the following states: Enugu, Abia, Imo, Ekiti, Akwa Ibom, Plateau, Anamabra, Nassarawa and the FCT.
Chairman of INEC, Prof. Attahiru Jega who presided over the collation exercise said the release of the remaining results continues today at 10:00am.
Meanwhile, INEC is yet to declare results in 18 (eighteen) states of the Federation, from which the results of he polls are now being expected: They are, Adamawa, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Benue, Borno, Cross Rivers, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, Gombe, Kebbi and Lagos.
Others are Niger, Rivers, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe, and Zamfara.
If the current tempo of performance by the All Progressives Congress over the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in the just concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections is sustained, the former is likely to form the central government.
This follows the winning of the APC in ten out of the 18 states and FCT, election results so far announced by State Electoral Officers at the final collation centre, Abuja presided over by INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega yesterday.
