BENIN CITY – A non-government organization, One Love Foundation has petitioned the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Minister of Education to fashion out ways; in order to curb the moral decadence of “sex for marks” in the nation’s tertiary institutions.
The group expressed dismay that the lecturers’ impunity has remained unchecked over the years.
President of the group, Comrade Patrick Eholor who stated this during an interactive session with newsmen in Benin City yesterday said the trend is worrisome adding, “As fathers and mothers, we are tired of the exploitation of our daughters by their own lecturers.”
The rights activist disclosed that the foundation was ready to take legal step to jail such “unscrupulous” lecturers and admonished victims’ to avail themselves of “One Love free counseling.”
According to him, it takes courage for victims’ of rape to come out… even a woman has a right to say “no” to her husband.
“Education is the live-wire of any nation. But we are worried that it is gradually dying because of the penchant of lecturers demanding ‘sex for grade’.
“Even if the girls are brilliant, they will still victimize them… A little girl once told me that she has N80.000 to give her lecturer for marks, but the lecturer told her to pay for a hotel and also pay him (the teacher) after sex,” he stated.
Continuing, Eholor said: “I have leaved in Canada for 30 years. I don’t think any normal lecturer will want to take undue advantage of my daughter.
“If she fails, let her fail and repeat as many times. But demand for sex is condemnable and ungodly.”
