LAGOS – The Western Naval Command of the Nigerian Navy (NN) has expressed satisfaction with its security arrangements for protecting Nigerian waters during the Presidential and National Assembly polls.
The spokesman of the command, Lt. Commander Abdusalam Sanni, made the assertion while speaking with newsmen in Lagos.
He said the Nigerian Navy had adequate manpower that patrolled the sea to support the Nigerian Police Force in ensuring safety during the conduct of the elections.
“We did what we were supposed to do as regards the Nigerian waters to secure it from any illegalities.
“As a matter of fact, no arrest was made by the command during the election because we made sure the waters were safe due to the patrol we carried out.
“We started our patrol even before the election period and we made sure the waters were safe, even up till the election day and till now,’’ he said.
Sanni also told newsmen that the command had deployed their gun boats and ships to ensure that the governorship and House of Assembly elections go smoothly, free, fair, crime and hitch-free.
“The waters will be safe for the upcoming elections just as we have ensured its safety for the Presidential and National Assembly elections,’’ he said.
It will be recalled that the navy in preparing for the general elections began patrol on the sea days before the election to ensure the waterways were safe from illegalities.
The Flag Officer Commanding, Rear Admiral Jonathan Ango, had said that ships had been deployed to sea to go round the creeks to make sure the waterways were safe.
