BENIN CITY – Participants at the Graduate Internship Scheme (GIS) Orientation and Employability training have expressed confidents that the GIS has not only equipped them enough to get desirable jobs, but has also empowered them to create jobs and become employers of labour.
This was expressed at the closing ceremony of the orientation training organised by the Federal Ministry of Finance which held in Benin City at the weekend.
In the words of the interns, “the programme is laudable and should be sustained, so that other applicants can benefit.”
One of the participants, Mr. Amos Ogierhiakhi, a 2012 Graduate of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma explained that he has learnt the fact that he is the first asset in any productive venture. He said the training has taught him the need to always engage productive skill in business, whether private or public.
Alasa Munirat, a 2010 Graduate of Federal Poly, expressed that through the GIS training, she has development the skill of resources management and she is now very determine to be self-employed
Also speaking, Osifo Sandra and Lawrenta Adubor, 2007 and 2005 University of Benin graduates respectively, expressed their happiness for partaking in the exercise. They both said that the training has created enough knowledge at their disposal for them to be able to engage any challenges in the future.
They, however, expressed their gratitude to the Federal government for the opportunity given them to benefit from the scheme and expressed that the training will certainly discourage many from travelling abroad to seek greener pastures.
They equally thanked the resource persons; comprising Olorogun Lucky Oghene-Omoru, Mr. Fred Onojeta and Mr. Festus Eligbo; for the knowledge imparted during the 3-day training and orientation and promised to utilise the value added whenever the need arises.
The orientation and employability training included practical assessment, evaluation and grading of the interns in the essential key indicators of the programme. They include Personal Branding, Adapting to organisation and its operations; Financial Literacy and Skill for the Work Place.
Other areas of training were Business Leadership, Mentoring, Ethics and Etiquette, Entrepreneurial capacity and development as well as Performance management and Action Plan.
Highpoint of the training workshop was the presentation of gifts items to the first, second and third group winners respectively in the practical test assessment.
